The Balanced Man Scholarship

We are no longer accepting applications for the 2010 school year.

Thank you to those that applied. You will hear within the next week regarding your status.

The Balanced Man Scholarship looks to recognize an incoming freshman male whose excellence in Scholarship, Leadership, Athletics, and Community Service marks a life of balance, maturity, and responsibility.  Michigan Alpha has been dedicated to the Balanced Man program since its inception in 1997, as each brother is challenged to demonstrate positive leadership in the development of his Sound Mind and Sound Body.  The scholarship is an outgrowth of working toward this ideal, and it looks to acknowledge and reward an individual for their high school accomplishments.

As a part of the Balanced Man Scholarship program, the brothers of Sigma Phi Epsilon reach out to the community through the following:

  • Mailings of applications and letters to over 1100 high schools.
  • A summer picnic at a local park, providing an opportunity for SigEp brothers and alumni to eat, socialize, and offer campus and career advice to Balanced Man semi-finalists.
  • A round of semi-finalist interviews held in the home or hometown of the semi-finalists.
  • A ceremony and dinner to recognize the accomplishments of our finalists and to announce the recipient of the $1000.00 Balanced Man Scholarship and a $500.00 Balanced Man Scholarship.

This year's $1000 Balanced Man Scholarship was awarded to Charles Zeller and the $500 Balanced Man Scholarship was awarded to Vincent Caruso
